| Applications:
More often than not, applications are run in every computer,
such as Microsoft Words, Excel, Access etc. Not only these applications,
but also many more applications in .exe (dot exe) files are run
at the same time.
Downloaded items from the Internet like games
are in .exe and CD contents are also in .exe. Exe is short for
execute, or performing a specific function. These files are potentially
dangerous, especially since we have no clue on the origin of it,
which might be infected with viruses or worms or Trojan horses.
On top of that, the threat of pirated CDs is still huge, and there
are tendencies that many companies are purchasing these pirated
CDs like Microsoft Office etc in order to save operation costs.
These CDs are a huge risk.
Imagine this scenario:
An employee/student brings his CD game to work/school.
Unfortunately, the CD game contains viruses not known to him.
He installs it and starts playing. Suddently, a virus warning
appears on the company/school network and before any actions can
be taken, the virus has spread to all the computers in the network,
including yours!!
As a business owner/CEO/school principal, are you aware of the
threat of piracy?! What can you do to enfore a policy so that
each and everyone of your employees/students realise the same
thing as you do?!
